    In other English-speaking countries, I believe that usage has the same split as the rhotic pronunciation of car, far, etc: Canadians say “math”, while Australians and New Zealanders say “maths”. 

    Edit: Sorry, that really doesn’t work, because Irish and Scottish English are rhotic but (I think) say “maths”. More on rhotic/non-rhotic dialects. South African English is non-rhotic but I’m not sure whether it says maths or math.
